EVENT ORGANIZATION |
The American Chinese Art Society (ACAS) will be sponsoring the Fourth New England Chinese Dance Competition on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the ACAS Activity Center. The Competition is a not-for-profit event. Beginning in 2005, the New England Chinese Dance Competition has been held every other year. |

ELIGIBILITY |
The Competition is open to all amateur dancers. |
|
CATEGORIES |
· Competitors will compete in four(6) categories. ACAS reserves the right to cancel a given category of competition due to insufficient number of entrants (Each category must have a minimum of three entrants). The registration fees will be refunded in case a category is canceled. Solo – ages 12 and under Duet or Trio - ages 12 and under Group – ages 12 and under Solo – ages 13 and above Duet or Trio - ages 12 and above Group – ages 13 and above · Category placement is determined by competitor age on the day of the competition. |

REGISTRATION |
· The registration fee schedule is as follows: Solo $ 50 Duet or Trio $ 30 for per person Group $ 15 for per person · An application form and registration fee must be received by ACAS by February 28, 2009. · There will be no registration fee refunds for accepted competitors. · The Competition will only accept 50 entries. Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Full refunds will be given to any competitor who cannot be scheduled. · A performance schedule will be mailed 2 weeks before the Competition. |

PROGRAM PROCEDURE |
· Competitors will be announced by number only. · The time limit for each performance is 6 minutes. Any competitor exceeding this time limit can be disqualified. · An Awards Ceremony will be held immediate following the Competition. |

MUSIC |
· Music can be recorded on either an analog cassette tape or CD. · Each tape or CD should contain only one song and should be labeled with: - Competitor’s name(s) and dance number - “On” if music begins with the dancer(s) on-stage, “Off” if music begins with dancer(s) off-stage |

ADJUDICATION AND SCORING |
· The Competition will be scored by three judges. · The judges will score based on presentation, technique, and choreography. · The decisions of the judges will be final. |

AWARDS |
· Winners will receive a trophy and cash award as follows: Solo Duet or Trio Group 1st place $100 $150 $250 2nd place $60 $100 $150 · In the case of ties, the cash award will be divided equally among the competitors. · First place winners will also have the option of performing at the ACAS 23rd Annual Chinese Dance Festival on June 27 & 28, 2009 at the Tsai Performance Center, Boston University. · Honorable mentions will also be awarded. · The judges reserve the right not to give any award in any given category. |

ADMITTANCE POLICY |
· No children under the age of 4 will be admitted. · Any competitor who attempts to speak to the judges under any condition is subject to disqualification. · No photography or videography will be allowed during the Competition, except by that of the official event photographer. Photography is welcome during the Awards Ceremony. |
