Dance Competition

THE NINTH NEW ENGLAND CHINESE DANCE COMPETITION 

SATURDAY, APRIL 6, 2019

The American Chinese Art Society’s (ACAS) will be sponsoring The 9th Chinese Dance Competition on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at ACAS Activity Center.  The Competition is a non-profit event.  Beginning in 2005, the New England Dance Competition has been held every other year.

 

Date:

April 6, 2019, 10AM-5:30PM

 

Location:

ACAS Activity Center, 29 Montvale Ave., Woburn, MA

 

Eligibility: 

The Competition is open to any amateur dancers. 

 

Entries: 

  • Application and registration fee ($70 for Solo, Duet or Trio $50 for per dancer, Group $30 for per dancer) must be received by ACAS no later than February 28, 2019.  All registration fees submitted are final.  There will be no refunds once you have been notified of acceptance.

  • The Competition is a one day event.  We will only accept 50 entries.  Competitors will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.  Full registration fee will be refunded to competitor who cannot be scheduled.

  • Audition schedule will be mailed 2 weeks before the Competition.             

 

Age Categories (as of April 6, 2019) :

The Competition is divided into 9 categories, and features in Classical, Minority and Folk of Chinese dances.

  • Solo – ages 12 and under     

  • Solo – ages 13 –18   

  • Solo – ages 19 and above

  • Duet/Trio - ages 12 and under          

  • Duet/Trio - ages 13 – 18 

  • Duet/Trio ages 19 and above

  • Group – ages 12 and under  

  • Group - ages 13 – 18    

  • Group – ages 19 and above

 

Arrangement: 

  • The Competition will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM at ACAS Activity Center.

  • Competitors will be announced by number only and shall not commence before the signal is given. 

  • Time limit for each dance is 6 minutes.  The judges reserve the right to disqualify a dance which runs significantly over the time limit.

  • The judges reserve the right not to give the first or second place awards in any category of the Competition.

  • The Award Ceremony will immediately follow the Competition.

 

Music:

Music file (mp3 format, with competitor’s name(s); Indicate “ON” if the music begins with the dancer(s) on stage, or “OFF” if the music begins with the dancer(s) off stage.) must be emailed to ACAS one month before the Competition.

 

Adjudication:

There will be two prominent judges (from outside states).  Their names will be announced at a later date.

 

Scoring: 

The judges will score the competitors on the basis of presentation, technique and choreography.  Decisions of the judges shall be final.

 

Award: 

  • Final decisions will be announced right after the Competition.

  • Diamond Award: Score 91 - 100

  • Pearl Award: score 81 - 90

  • Crystal Award: Score 80 and under

  • All competitors will receive a certificate.

 

Admission of Competitors and Public:

  • The public may not enter or leave the hall while a competitor is on stage. 

  • No admittance is allowed for children under 4. 

  • Judges have absolute privacy at all times and no one may speak to them under any circumstances or conditions, excepting members of the auspices.  Anyone who violates this rule will be immediately disqualified from the Competition. 

  • Absolutely no photo and video taking is allowed during the Competition, excepting photographer of the auspices. 

  • Photographs are welcome during the Awards Ceremony.
